Jun.26th - Weekend Planner...and Michael

...Well...before I give you the low-down on this weekend's events, I must address the news of the world in the passing of Michael Jackson. First of all, it still really hasn't sunk in yet, just too big to even believe that is has really happened. Secondly, it is very sad considering the many roller-coaster years that Michael has had recently, and his seemingly fading health. But, most importantly, it is a time to reflect on what a master of song and dance he was, and to enjoy many years of incredible music, and almost unbelievable accomplishments. Like many people, I was very curious to see what his comeback would entail, and what kind of new music we would hear from the 'King of Pop'. He seemed to be a person who was possessed with perfection, and in the end, it may have been what cost him his life. I hope the speculation of why and how he died won't drag on...and we can soon focus on his remarkable career and legacy. So, break out the old vinyl, get that Thriller album out, and re-live those glory days of Michael Jackson!
...It should also be noted, and certainly not side-lined, that Farrah Fawcett lost her long battle with Cancer yesterday. I was really too young to have witnessed her impact (but, I did see the poster!) on television...and teenage boys everywhere, but, was very impressed at her bravery in being so public with her battle. She was also an incredible actress as well, having been nominated for Emmy Awards, and having some remarkable film roles, such as The Apostle with Robert Duvall. A very sad day indeed.
...Well...shifting gears, and moving forward...it is time to set things up for the weekend, which should include a ton of sunshine and warm temps too:
- The Penticton Pacific Northwest Elvis Festival begins tonight at Okanagan Lake Park, and will continue through Sunday with the finals at 2pm from the Trade and Convention Centre. There will be a number of awesome Elvis tribute artists performing, and competing, and a great Saturday night show too with last year's champ Ben Klein, and the Ultimate Elvis Winner Shawn Klush. If you get a chance, check it out, you will be impressed.
- While taking in the Elvis Fest, you can head on down to Lakeshore Drive and enjoy all of the vintage vehicles on display for this year's Peach City Beach Cruise. Gyro Park will be full of entertainment and food too!
- Tinhorn Creek Vineyards is continuing with their Summer concert series, and will feature Alex Vega tomorrow night at 7.
...anyway...should be a great weekend, so, hopefully you can head out and enjoy those actitivies!
...On Monday morning, a full review of the weekend, and Karolina returns from her cross-Canada road trip. We will talk about that, and get you ready for all of the Canada Day events coming up on Wednesday. Enjoy your weekend, and talk to you Monday morning!
